John August: Gecko Stone ™If you have ever been in Hawaii it is likely you encountered the friendly wall climbing and chirping Gecko lizards which inspired local architectural designer and mold maker John August to immortalize them in concrete interlocking pavers known as Gecko Stones™.
Admittedly inspired by artist M. C. Escher, August's copyrighted design is uniquely different - transforming a derivative image into a practical art form through a process known as tessellation or tiling - a combination of both art and geometry. August has incorporated this technique into a series of truly interlocking pavers which require no additional borders to keep them from wandering off in your garden.
He uses Davis Colors exclusively to accent his work, saying simply, "besides looking good, color sells." Besides the Gecko, August has available an interlocking frog, aka Frogrock™, and two geometric patterns, the Hexacon Interplexus and H. Concentrex. Size ranges from one square foot for the Gecko to one half square foot for the Hexacon series.
