Tucson Museum of Art Goodman Pavilion CourtyardDesign Collaborations developed an innovative design solution for the Goodman Pavilion Courtyard which is situated between the historic adobe Goodman Pavilion built in 1886 and the main museum building built in 1974 of formed gray concrete. The museum wanted to maximize site flexibility and to provide an intimate gathering area without grade changes. The courtyard will be used during openings as the food and beverage area, as well as be rented for events such as weddings or dinner parties. In developing the design, the challenge was to blend the opposing styles and materials in a durable and aesthetically pleasing fashion. As a result, the paving became a key element to creating the softness and look of adobe with the ease of maintenance and strength of concrete. The special paver was created by blending two Davis colors to achieve the look and feel Design Collaborations desired.
